It Started with a Hat
One windy day on San Francisco Bay, my favorite blue cap blew into the water. When I went looking for a replacement, the options felt familiar in the wrong way. They were either loud and over-branded or too traditional to feel like everyday wear. That gap became the starting point for Avelamer: a quieter take on coastal clothing shaped by life on and near the water.
Rooted in Northern California
Avelamer (ah-veh-lah-mair) comes from the Breton word Avel (wind) and French La Mer (the sea). Avelamer originated in Sausalito and is shaped by Northern California coastal life with fog, wind, salt air, sun breaks, and layered days that start cool and warm as they go. That landscape informs the brand as much as sailing does.
Our palette follows the same logic: muted, weathered, calm, and a little lived-in. Not bright resort colors. Not a nautical costume. Just the tones and textures of life near the water.
Built for the Rhythm of Coastal Days
Avelamer is designed for the way coastal days actually move, with cool mornings, bright afternoons, wind on the water, and layers that stay comfortable through it.
Easy fits provide comfort and freedom of movement on and off the boat. Cotton-rich fabrics bring softness, breathability, and everyday durability. Select styles use UPF 50+ cotton fabrics, offering real sun protection without leaning on synthetic performance wear.
A Calm Brand, by Design
Avelamer is designed to feel clear, calm, and low-pressure. We are less interested in noise, trend cycles, or overt branding than in making pieces and a brand experience that feel steady over time.
That same restraint shows up in the clothing: clean lines, muted color, thoughtful texture, and an understated point of view shaped more by life near the water than by performance-wear clichés.
For the Coast
The coast shapes how we live, so supporting it is part of how we operate. We back credible organizations doing real work to protect coastal ecosystems and the places we rely on.
Quietly, with long horizons, and without fanfare.
